Soft Drink Resolution
Since making it a resolution back in July to stop drinking soft drinks, I’m happy to report that soft drinks are still absent in my diet. I’ve found that in most all restaurants, there are alternatives to the Coke and Pepsi products that seem to dominate. My favorite is lemonade, although I do occasionally get teased by my coworkers when the only kind of lemonade available is pink.
I’ve never liked the taste of iced tea so that option was out for me. Besides, part of my resolution to cut out soft drinks was to also cut out the caffeine, something that’s also in tea. One thing you want to make sure of is that you’re not trading one problem for another.
What I have to work on next is cutting down on sugar. Although lemonade usually contains less sugar than most soft drinks, that’s not always the case so you do have to be cautious. After all , brands such as “Hi-C” and “Minute Maid” are owned by Coke so many of the ingredients are the same as in their soft drinks. One solution is to dilute the lemonade with water (about 1/3 of a glass of water to 2/3 of lemonade). That will reduce your sugar intake while still maintaining the lemon taste.
There’s no perfect answer, other than drinking plain water. However, making small improvements, one after the other, is a practical way to improve your diet, as well as your health, and is something that can be done by anyone.
No matter where you are in terms of health or weight, you can improve. Start small … and start now.
