CDC Website on Healthy Aging
By the year 2015, an estimated 63 million US adults will be between the ages of 50 and 65. That’s 20% of the nation’s population. That number is not only big enough to be a significant influence on political events (which it is), it’s also a significant consumer of healthcare-related goods and services.
Now, here’s the bad news. According to a new study from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), only about 1 in 4 Americans in this age group regularly take advantage of preventive health services such as screenings and immunizations. This group unfortunately neglects to take advantage of these services at precisely the time in their lives that these services can do the most good.
